Einstein & the Cosmos featuring Nancy Lepo and Jean Mason will be opening at Hot Shops Art Center downtown on September 2nd and running through the 26th.
There will be an artists' reception on September 3rd from 5-9pm and on September 19th from 2-5pm.
How do you visually represent space and time, complex patterns of the world, or concepts which the mind cannot grasp?
Art most frequently interprets the visible world just as science plots its unseen workings. The two realms seem completely opposed. But consider that both strive to reveal truths for which there are no words. Scientists use mathematical formulas. Artists use visual images.
About the Artists:
Jean Mason is an oil painter ususally known for her vivid jazz musicians. The series of paintings dances in the same palette and large scale, but with a whole new subject matter. Works are based on gravity, light, and sound waves, earth elements, and the concept of time. She begs controversy as she plays with varied subject matter such as parallel universes, crop circles, government conspiracies, intelligent design, and comparisons of religion to extraterrestrial life forms.
Nancy Lepo creates amazingly detailed ink drawings with millions of tiny dots -- the drawings are sometimes mistaken to be photographs. The artist creates a tremendous range of tones and layered effects while using only black ink. This series of drawings explores the interplay of light, time, cosmic wonders, and humanity reaching out with "grand scale curiosity." With this series, she finally grew into her technical/science-based education.
