about

It was 1973, and Kat Moser was new to Omaha. Visiting the city’s eclectic Old Market area gave her the inspiration she needed to realize a lifelong dream: opening a women’s clothing boutique. “I wanted to open a store that was terribly unique,” Moser says. “In 1973, Nouvelle Eve was truly new. We were about presentation and highlighting fashion, and we were willing to do things no one else would.”

Now, 35 years later, Nouvelle Eve is known for its high-quality, right-off-the-runway fashion, unique jewelry and original gifts. It serves not only as a shopping experience for visitors, but as a destination store for residents looking for something special. The store has operated at its original location, 11th and Howard streets, for 35 years.

An incredibly creative person, Moser has expanded on her love for fashion over the years by also serving as photographer for the store’s marketing efforts. Though originally she was a subject in front of the camera, she quickly realized she’d much rather be behind it, directing. “My first love was always clothing, but through it my love of visual art developed,” Moser says. She and her husband also own Jackson Artworks art gallery in Omaha’s Old Market.

To celebrate the store’s 35th anniversary, Moser has been incorporating her stylish photography into marketing pieces for Nouvelle Eve. By selecting some of her portraits to incorporate into the store’s latest branding campaign, Moser has created an entirely new and spectacular image for Nouvelle Eve. Her artwork is displayed in the store and is used in print marketing, as well. By mixing her business with pleasure, Moser hopes to introduce a new artistic flair into the store and expand her customer base. She also wants to educate women about the connection between fashion and art and empower others to follow in her footsteps.

“It’s a nice, new direction for the store and a bridge with the gallery. It ties the importance of artwork to the importance of fashion,” she says. “Some women spend so much time on dressing themselves but neglect how they’re dressing their walls. Attention should be given to both.”

Though Nouvelle Eve will celebrate 35 years in business, Moser has been sorry to see many large, national chain stores close this past year — in Omaha and across the country. No one knows better than she how tough it is to make it in retail, yet Moser says she knows why Nouvelle Eve has thrived for 35 years.

“My philosophy is that the future is always our creation … BLISS belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”
